Kentas lay on the roof of Frankenstein's and the Noblesse's house, staring up at the stars. What he could see of them. Clouds covered most of the sky, not giving him the clear view he was used to when he was on mountaint-
He bolted upright, ears straining. There it was again, a cacophony of screams in the distance. If there was that many all at once, it had to be a strong enemy.
He almost jumped to the closest rooftop before he hesitated, looking down.
It would waste time, but if he couldn't do this alone...
It was a strange feeling, Kentas mused as he swung through the open balcony door, dashing downstairs. He was used to doing things alone, not needing to rely on others. But here... If their enemy wasn't honourable and attacked in groups, he had people who could help.
"Someone's attacking the city!" Kentas said as he burst through the livingroom door. The others were on their feet instantly. "It's somewhere to the south!" He was already heading for the door when Tao's voice made him stop.
"Hold on," Tao said, a screen edging down from the ceiling to cover the tv. It was so slow and why did Tao want to wait when people were being hurt now? "I wanna check what they're doing so we can have a game plan when we get there."
"We can do that when we get there!" This was wasting time.
The screen switched on and Tao had pulled out his mini-laptop, tapping on it. The screen flickered, showing a new angle of the city with each blink.
"'s better to be prepared beforehand," Tao murmured, his voice distracted. "We've had too many times where we've been caught off guard and that cost us time while we prepared a plan."
Hnnng. Kentas frowned, crossing his arms as he waited. Inside, he couldn't hear the screams but he was sure it was still happening - unless they'd been cut off.
"That's weird..."
"What?" Kentas said. He could barely make sense of what was on the screen.
"Nothing's happening," M-21 said, his eyes fixed on the screen. "No explosions or smoke. Everything's normal."
"That doesn't make sense," Kentas said, frowning. "I know what I heard."
"There's nothing on the usual social media sites either," Tao said, his tapping slowing. "It would have started pouring in by now. I'm not sure - ah."
The screen finally stopped on. Something. There were a lot of metal and moving lights.
"I think this is what you were hearing."
Kentas' frown deepened. "The metal sounds like human screams?" He knew what that sounded like - they weren't similar.
"Nooo," Tao drew out, tapping again, and the image zoomed in on their faces, mouths wide and Kentas could imagine the screams coming from them. But their expressions weren't anguished. The corners of the lips were turned upwards, like they were laughing. "It's a fair. There are rides that people go on for fun."
"And that makes them scream," Kentas said, studying footage more. The 'ride' kept repeating what it was doing, lifting the humans up and then dropping them, or swinging them around in the air. At the base of the ride, there was a line of humans.
"Yup!" Tao sucked in a breath. "Ooh! Let's go check it out!"
Takeo and M-21 were already sighing by the time Tao grabbed their hands and started pulling them towards the door.
"Then you'll be able to tell the difference between the city is being attacked and if humans are having fun - the fair's gonna be here for a while, so it'll be good to know."
"And you want to go on the rides," M-21 said, smirking. He was still putting on his jacket.
"Of course!" Tao threw Kentas a grin. "It's not as exciting as a fight or anything we can do, but it's a safe way for humans to do something similar."
Kentas nodded, moving to follow. It sounded interesting.
