Frankenstein hummed as he put the dishes away, rain thumping at the windows. Muzaka was away visiting the werewolves and Min-gyu was asleep so for now he had time to himself.
He paused, hearing a creak under the wind. It wasn't a sound he was expecting at this time of night, but the following foot tread was too light to be an adult.
It was storming outside.
Ah, of course.
It must have woken Min-gyu up. He'd thought Min-gyu might sleep through it, but it was rather loud now.
The kitchen door swung open, but Min-gyu didn't speak up immediately. Frankenstein continued putting the dishes away, letting Min-gyu decide what he wanted to do.
"Uhm, Frankenstein...?"
"Min-gyu?" Frankenstein said, drying his hands on a teatowel as he turned around. "What are you doing up?"
"I woke up," Min-gyu said, rubbing at an eye. Just as Frankenstein thought. "Because of the ghost."
...Though he hadn't expected that as the reason. "A ghost?" he repeated, setting the teatowel down.
Min-gyu nodded. "He was being too loud so I couldn't go back to sleep."
Hmm. Frankenstein walked over and held his hand out. "Can you show me where this ghost is?"
"Yeah." Min-gyu took his hand, leading him back up the stairs. Maybe Min-gyu wasn't scared of ghosts, or was too tired to be.
Min-gyu's door was ajar as they approached it and Frankenstein could hear the wind howling even louder here.
"See?"
"I can hear a lot of noise, yes," Frankenstein said, turning the lights on. Everything was in its place, though Min-gyu's blanket was askew. "It sounds like it's coming from the window, doesn't it?"
Min-gyu didn't say anything, looking around his room instead, though he followed when Frankenstein lead him closer to the window. "The howling's louder here," Min-gyu said, peering outside.
"I think the ghost you heard," Frankenstein said, "was the wind blowing through the tree, see?"
Min-gyu peered closer, the rain slamming against the window. "Oh. Sorry."
"That's all right," Frankenstein said, patting Min-gyu's shoulder. "Do you think you can go back to sleep?"
"...No."
"It is rather loud, isn't it?" But it was good Min-gyu was telling him how he felt rather than what he thought Frankenstein wanted to hear. "Let's go have some hot chocolate then."
Min-gyu brightened, following him back to the kitchen.
It didn't take long to make hot chocolate and they sat at the table, Min-gyu curling his hands around his mug. The storm was already dying down and Min-gyu seemed to be dozing off as he finished his mug, his eyes drooping lower and lower.
"Ready to go to bed?" Frankenstein said as he collected their mugs.
"Y-yeah..." Min-gyu was leaning forward, his head getting closer and closer to the table.
Frankenstein set the mugs into the sink. "All right, let's go." He collected Min-gyu, who relaxed into him once he was in Frankenstein's arms, and was already asleep by the time they were upstairs.
Min-gyu didn't stir when Frankenstein tucked him into bed, and he double-checked as he left Min-gyu's room. Min-gyu was still sleeping deeply and Frankenstein kept the door ajar as he headed back downstairs to finish up the washing.
