Min-gyu woke up with a gasp. He stared around his room, but couldn't see anything moving, everything glowing dimly from his nightlight. Nothing there. No-one trying to chase him or hurt him.

He should go back to sleep. People didn't like it if he got up in the middle of the night.

Footsteps outside his door and Min-gyu stilled. Had he made too much noise? Was he in trouble? He threw the blanket over his head, pretending to sleep in case whoever it was checked on him.

He listened as the footsteps faded away, but he kept the blanket over him, just in case.

Now he definitely couldn't go back to sleep, as he continued listening out for the footsteps, in case they returned.

* * *

Min-gyu yawned as he ate breakfast, just able to catch himself before he dropped it.

"Min-gyu?"

"Mm!" Had he dropped it? Was he being too obvious? Did they think he didn't like the food enough? "Yes?"

"How did you sleep last night?" Frankenstein asked, looking at him.

"Okay!" Eventually. Maybe. He wasn't sure if he slept again afterwards, but he did sleep before he woke up! He wasn't lying!

"Hm, all right," Frankenstein said, turning his attention back to breakfast.

Phew, he wasn't in trouble. Min-gyu continued eating, to prove he'd slept well.

* * *

Min-gyu blinked at the blue light in his room. He was warm under the thick blanket and he could pick out some of his toys. This was his bedroom.

Oh. He'd woken up again.

There were footsteps outside his door and Min-gyu was pretty sure they were Frankenstein's. Muzaka's footsteps sounded different. Heavier.

He stilled when a sliver of pale light entered his room, growing larger as his bedroom door opened further.

Whoever it was (Frankenstein?) didn't say anything for a few seconds, and why was Frankenstein there? Was he checking on him? Did Frankenstein always do this? Was-

"Min-gyu," Frankenstein said softly, "I know you're awake."

How did he know that? Min-gyu had been lying still! His eyes were closed! Frankenstein really knew everything.

"Do you want to come with me and have some hot chocolate? That can help you sleep."

That did sound nice... Min-gyu peeked at Frankenstein from under the covers. Frankenstein didn't look mad, and he'd offered, so that was okay, wasn't it?

"Okay?" Min-gyu slipped out of bed, but almost tripped over his own feet, his body not listening to him properly.

"Min-gyu, do you want me to carry you?"

Min-gyu paused, looking up at him. Did he? Was he being slow? "Okay." If Frankenstein thought it would be better that way.

Min-gyu sucked in a breath as Frankenstein came over and scooped him up by his armpits as easily as if Min-gyu weighed as much as a book.

He was held against Frankenstein's shoulder as Frankenstein walked through the house, and Min-gyu just blinked slowly as things moved past him. He wasn't falling asleep, but it was warm against Frankenstein's shoulder, his hair brushing against his face.

It felt...safe here. He didn't feel like Frankenstein was going to drop him.

Frankenstein continued carrying him when they reached the kitchen, Min-gyu hearing him collecting things and switching the cooker on.

"...Min-gyu?" Frankenstein said softly, touching Min-gyu's head.

"Mmm?" he said, turning towards Frankenstein.

"Do you still want to drink, or do you want to sleep now?"

"'M still 'wake," Min-gyu said, rubbing at an eye. He didn't really feel sleepy, just tired.

"Okay, I'll put you down so you can drink."

They went to the living room and Frankenstein put him down at the table, setting his cup down in front of him.

Min-gyu didn't do anything straight away, just smelling the hot chocolate, his hands warming on the cup. It didn't smell like any hot chocolate he'd had before, and it had white blobs in it.

He glanced over at a noise, and oh, Frankenstein was drinking something as well. Maybe Frankenstein was drinking the same?

The hot chocolate tasted different too, sweeter, when Min-gyu sipped at it. He wanted to try more of it because it was so nice, but he stopped, blinking down at his empty cup when there was nothing left. It was all gone already?

"Do you want me to show you how to make it when you wake up?" Frankenstein asked, and Min-gyu widened his eyes. Frankenstein would show him?

He nodded. "Yes!"

"Okay, we'll do that when you wake up," Frankenstein said, standing up.

Min-gyu was a little more prepared when Frankenstein picked him up, settling against his shoulder with a sigh.

They somehow got to Min-gyu's room between one blink and the next.

Another blink and Min-gyu was tucked in bed.

"Goodnight, Min-gyu."

"'Nigh..."

* * *

Min-gyu woke up, blinking at his ceiling, hearing Muzaka walk past. He wasn't sure when the last time he'd woken up in the middle of the night was, but he slid out of bed, bringing his plush toy with him.

Even as he neared the door, he stopped hearing Muzaka's footsteps.

Muzaka was just a couple steps away from his door when Min-gyu opened it, and Min-gyu shuffled towards him.

"What's up, kiddo. Can't sleep?"

"Mmn." Maybe. But Muzaka was here. And that made everything better.

He lifted up his arms as Muzaka walked over, used to how Muzaka scooped him up. "Uuup we get. You want somethin' ta drink?"

"Mmm, don't mind," Min-gyu said, burying his face in Muzaka's shoulder. He just wanted to be with Muzaka.

"Heh, okay. I'll just bring ya with me until you fall asleep again, sound good?"

"Yeah," Min-gyu said, hugging Muzaka, listening as Muzaka started humming.

He would fall asleep again soon.
