Frankenstein exhaled, creasing their brow as they opened their eyes. They blinked up at the ceiling.

The unfamiliar ceiling.

Where...were they? The last thing they remembered was...Muzaka and the Union ship. Were they still there? Had Muzaka been captured?

"Mornin', Boss," Tao said, leaning into view.

Frankenstein stared at his face for a few long seconds, before relaxing. They weren't on a Union ship. Or, they were, but it was the one they all wanted to be on. Tao wouldn't be allowed to sit next to them if the others had been captured as well.

"Morning." Their throat was dry and scratchy, and Tao held out a small bottle of water to them.

Frankenstein took it as they pulled themselves up into a sitting position, just holding it. Feeling the room's slight vibration, hearing the low hum of an engine throughout everything. They were moving.

"How you feelin', Boss?"

Frankenstein considered the question as they sipped the water. They still felt as if they had been drained of all their energy, only able to keep themselves upright due to propping themselves up against the headboard. But... "Alive," they ended up saying. They felt alive when they thought they would die, when they thought they would forever be under the Union's control.

Tao grinned at him. "That's good. And hey, thanks for givin' me your data earlier - it smoothed out a couple things when I was trying to figure out what you needed."

Frankenstein nodded, sipping again. "That was exactly the reason why I had given it to you." Looked like they had chosen wisely, giving everyone's data to Tao. "How is everyone else?" Frankenstein asked, looking around the medbay. There was no-one else on the beds.

"All alive too," Tao said. "I think I'm the only who got beat up, aside from you, heh. All the trackers are off, so now we just need them out and spaced, to make sure they don't get reactivated."

Frankenstein nodded again, thinking over the preparation they'd need to do. "I'll get started-"

Tao held up his hands, making them pause. "Food first, Boss. No surgery-ing on an empty stomach, or while you're still recovering."

...Yes, food did seem like a good idea right now.

Frankenstein braced themself for when they entered the engine room and... They blinked, the wave of heat they expected not hitting them. The engine was definitely working, lights fluctuating up and down it. Then, the ship's engine room wasn't as humid as the base's boiler room?

They smiled when they saw Muzaka's back to them, hunched over a panel, a spanner in hand.

"How is she doing?"

Even before Frankenstein had finished speaking, Muzaka had whipped around, almost hitting his head off the panel. "Frankenstein!"

In a few steps, Muzaka had crossed the room, wrapping his arms around Frankenstein so tightly he almost took Frankenstein off their feet. "You're okay." His words were muffled in Frankenstein's shoulder, as Frankenstein returned his hug.

"I am, thanks to you," Frankenstein said.

"Heh, I wasn't gonna leave ya." Muzaka pulled his head back just enough so he could lean in to kiss Frankenstein.

Yes, Frankenstein was glad he hadn't.

[Did you walk off?] Frankenstein found themself smiling at Em's call. They'd left Muzaka in the engine room to continue working, while they checked on everyone else.

[Yes,] they said. [Are you worried about me?] He had to be, or else Em wouldn't have called them.

[Hmph. You disappeared from Medbay.]

Yes, he was worried about them. [I'm sure Tao would have informed you all if I'd died,] Frankenstein said wryly.

They heard Em sigh. [You're already back to yourself then.]

They smiled. [It would appear so.] They were still tired, but the food and walk seemed to help.

[Fine.] Em cut the call with a grumble, making Frankenstein chuckle.

Kentas turned to see Frankenstein as soon as the door opened. "Hey," Kentas said with a smile, "you're awake."

"Finally, by the sounds of it." Tao said they'd been sleeping for hours, far longer than what they'd done when they'd killed Yuri.

Frankenstein's eyes drifted along all the green plants along the rows of pots. "They're growing well."

Kentas' smile widened. "Yeah. I think they perked up once we hit space," he said, laughing a little.

Frankenstein couldn't help but smile back. "I think we all did." They felt...lighter, on the ship, and not just because of the different gravity. They felt as if they could breathe a little easier here.

The cockpit was a room of so many flashing lights, like little stars twinkling across the consoles, but it was the real stars whizzing by on the screen that caught Frankenstein's breath. There were windows along the ship's corridors so they could see the stars going past, but it was different in the cockpit. Here, they were moving towards them, not just seeing stars going by.

"How is everything?" Frankenstein asked, walking up to Takeo.

"We've got enough fuel to keep going for a while, and everything's running smoothly so far," Takeo said, his eyes not leaving the consoles.

"That's good." It was. Frankenstein couldn't stop looking at the stars. What they represented. This was all new now. They'd been on ships before, but they'd never had a say where they were going, only being taken somewhere.

"Tao hasn't ambushed you about ship names yet?"

When Frankenstein glanced at him, they could see the soft smile on his face. "No," they admitted. "He wanted me to eat first." No mentions of the ship, only where people were.

Takeo chuckled. "He's probably waiting until you've settled in." He paused, reaching forward to flip a switch. "And adding more names."

That many ideas? Frankenstein hummed, watching the stars again. "I'll see once I've removed our trackers, but...this should be a group decision, no?" Something they all agreed on.

Takeo laughed. "Yeah."

Frankenstein exhaled, just listening to the hum of the engine, watching the stars move towards them.

They'd made it out.

They were free.
