The hive mind hummed, letting Alex know know another imposter had snuck aboard the ship. He sighed as he turned around, letting the hive mind guide him to where the other imposter was before they found one of the crewmates.

He wasn't sure what the hive mind was for -his memories before he consumed Mercer were...fuzzy, like a half-forgotten dream- but right now, it was useful, even if it wasn't its intended purpose.

The imposter was helmeted when he found them, their 'suit a dark blue.

[Oh, is this your hunting ground?] the imposter said as he approached. The voice was deep, with the rasp that would place the person as older in a human.

"Yeah," Alex said, his tendrils writhing out of his form with a thought. Before the imposter noticed, he pounced.

*

Most of the memories that he picked up from other imposters was just them killing crewmates, nothing more. Which was fine for Alex. He had enough voices swirling around in his head as it was.

Once he was done making sure he hadn't left any evidence of the fight, he continued on with some of his tasks.

Carrying fuel brought him past Security, and he ducked in. "Hey," he said, the room filled with keyboard clicks as Dana worked.

"Hey," Dana said, waving one hand. "Good job on the imposter."

Alex stilled, not sure he heard her right.

She looked over her shoulder at him. "You okay?"

"Yeah," he said slowly, studying her. Had she seen his fight? He thought he'd been out of the camera's range when he transformed. But if she had, then why hadn't she reported him?

"What?" She didn't say anything for a few seconds, and then narrowed her eyes. "You thought I didn't know you were an imposter?"

"Uh." All the voices in his head from the people he'd consumed and their collective knowledge, and he couldn't think what he should say.

Dana rolled her eyes. "Look, I know, okay? I've known for a while you're imposter." She gestured at the screens behind her. "I can see the whole of the ship from here."

"And you didn't...?" Alex said faintly.

"What, call a meeting?" She snorted, crossing her arms. "Believe me, you're a better brother than Alex ever was - the bastard tried to get me spaced when people were suspicious of him."

Oh.

"So keep taking out the imposters - though you need to tell me how you find them so quickly," Dana said, turning back to her screens.

Alex glanced back at the fuel carton in his hand. "When I'm finished with the task."

"Yeah, sure." She settled back into her seat, already tapping at the keyboard as Alex left.

They would have a lot to talk about when he got back.
