“Okaaay,” Tao said, hearing the little dragon’s growls, “your shiny.” At least there wasn’t a lot of coins there.

The growls tapered off, though the dragon kept watching him. “I’ll just…go over here.” To the open window, which must have been where the dragon had flown in. Closing it would mean the dragon stayed, but since it had chosen its hoard, it wasn’t going to be leaving any time soon either. Not unless Tao threw those coins out as well. Which he wasn’t going to do.

The dragon did seem a little on the thin side. Though Tao didn’t know what baby dragons looked like, but he’d seen pictures of adult dragons and they seemed more filled out than this one.

“Are ya hungry?” Those sharp fangs definitely said meat eater, hm…

“My shiny.”

Tao peered at the dragon, who had spread its wings to cover the coins even more.

“Your shiny,” Tao confirmed. “I wasn’t asking to trade — just wanted to know if you wanted food.”

The dragon narrowed its eyes at him.

Tao cut a few pieces of chicken and set them on a plate, putting it in front of the dragon.

The dragon stretched to get the food but couldn’t reach it, its body firmly staying on its hoard. It hissed, flapping its wings, but the food didn’t get any closer.

Trying to hide his smile, Tao turned the plate so the chicken was closer to it.

The dragon gobbled up the chicken, licking the plate afterwards. Once it was done, it froze, its attention snapping to Tao once more, hissing at him.

“I have more…?” Tao offered.

The dragon continued watching him, a low growl in its throat.

Without another word, Tao added more to its plate, pulling his hand back as it snapped at his fingers.

It ate a little slower this time, ears pinned on him, trying to keep him in view.

“That should be enough,” Tao said. Small frequent meals for babies, right? “I’ll just-” Tao reached for the plate to wash it, but the dragon growled at him, claws scratching the plate’s surface as it pulled the plate towards it. “-leave that with you then.”

Hopefully the dragon hadn’t claimed that as its hoard as well. He had more though, but he didn’t really want to keep adding to its pile.

The dragon continued watching him. “I’m still not gonna touch your hoard.”

What he was going to do to comb through his books to see if there were more details about dragons in there he’d forgotten and could use to help.
