Nai dug his knives into Vash's back, the connection snapping open immediately. He could hear Vash's voice in his head once more, and it had been so long since they'd been so close, their thoughts bumping into each other and intertwining.
Vash was crying out like a dying plant, but he would fix that. He would make Vash see properly again.
He slid his knives deeper, feeling the pulse of Vash's heart slow and match his own. Vash's lungs stopped, because he didn't need them - he only thought he did. So much wasted energy for nothing.
With each second that ticked by, he delved deeper into Vash, feeling the moment Vash's body reacted, roots growing and spreading out. Good. Nai nudged the roots towards their sisters around them. The roots pulsed with energy, drawing more and more from the gate, moving faster and faster.
Vash's thoughts tumbled against his, memories flashing by and Nai shoved them away. They weren't important. They wouldn't exist soon enough.
Nai's left shoulder ached and that must be Vash's. It still hurt, after all this time?
Except that wasn't the only place Vash hurt. His legs were similarly gone, stubs ending in metal. Across Vash's body were more evidence of human violence carved across his skin, incompletely healed injuries and metal threaded through flesh and muscle, anchored on bone, holding him together.
Nai gritted his teeth, calming himself before his thoughts affected his knives and they lashed out in reaction.
Humans had done this and Vash still wanted to protect them? The idiot.
The connection between them continued to grow and Nai was drawn into one of Vash's memories.
Fine. He would remove the memories one by one, the ones that had caused Vash to think like this, to accept being hurt over and over again.
He would remake Vash from the ground up, without any human influence.
He would make Vash whole again.
