Frankenstein looked across at a soft thump, and a small smile twitched up the corner of his lips as he saw Tao wrestling with M-21's tail. M-21 was laying down as he dozed, but he still flicked his tail for Tao's enjoyment.

Hm.

What had happened to Tao's other toys? Frankenstein looked around, but couldn't find any trace of them. It was...doubtful Tao had eaten them, and if he had, Frankenstein was sure M-21 would have brought it to his attention. So it was more likely Tao had stashed them somewhere in the house, though trying to find where exactly would take some time.

He could make a few more toys for Tao, so M-21 could at least sleep uninterrupted.

Until Tao stashed the new ones away, but Frankenstein might have found where Tao was keeping them by then.

"Do you want to be my assistant?" Frankenstein asked a little later as Tao trotted up to him.

"Mrow!" was the answer, which was expected.

Frankenstein caught him before Tao latched onto his trousers. "I'll take that as a yes. Now then," he said as he turned to leave the living room, Tao purring in his arms as he petted him, "I've arranged a few test items, so I'd like your input if you'd so humour me."

M-21 was so tired he didn't stir, his tail tip twitching every so often. Yes, this should definitely help.

"Raow!"

"Thank you very much for your participation," Frankenstein said as they headed for the lab.

Once they reached the testing room, Tao jumped out of his arms and started exploring.

"Now then," Frankenstein said as he sat down, "what do you think of these?"

He knew what Tao preferred playing with, but that was only what he'd seen so far, and Tao probably had preferences amongst his preferences.

He knew Tao liked the fish on the stick, and he dangled a piece of fabric on a piece of string. Tao's attention snapped to it (unsurprisingly, as there wasn't much of interest in this room aside from his desk and materials) and dashed at it.

Good. Exactly what he wanted. Now to narrow down what exactly Tao liked, from material to shapes.

Frankenstein smiled as he watched Tao batting at some loose fabric in the fabic bin. It was one he intended to use for a number of Tao's toys, but it was nice having the reaffirmation it was something Tao wanted.

Well then, now he just had to make Tao's toys.

Frankenstein exhaled as he leaned back at his desk, stretching his arms high above his head. Making toys wasn't so much different from making clothes, just on a much smaller scale.

"What do you think?" Frankenstein asked, picking up the fish on a stick from the lineup and waving it closer to Tao. He'd made one side of shimmering fabric, so light would bounce off it. That should catch Tao's attention even more.

Tao looked across from the fabric bin at the toy.

And then turned his attention back to the bit of scrap fabric he had been playing with, batting at it.

Eh?

"Tao?" Frankenstein tried again, waving the fish in front of Tao's face.

"Mrrff," Tao said, ear twitching as he ignored the fish.

Frankenstein stared at him and then let out a loose laugh, covering his face with a hand.

Yes.

Tao was a cat after all.
