"Hey, Mac!"
Mac looked up at his door, seeing the commander there, leaning against the doorframe. "Commander," he said, ducking his head.
"So I hear you're heading off to play with the civilians," Commander said, a wry grin on his face.
"Ah, yes." News did travel fast, even if that information was meant to be confidential. The rest of his platoon would have found out eventually anyway, when he left.
Commander looked him up and down, and then shook his head. "Dunno what new training you need so bad they can't just download it into you, but as a heads up, civilians don't wear fatigues." He cocked another grin at him, all teeth. "Enjoy wearing wearing the noose," he said, leaving with a final wave.
"A noose...?" Mac repeated. He would need to research that.

Mac studied himself in the mirror as he prepared to leave for the police station. The suit was still a uniform, even if it was more one base colour and had less armour. It was lighter because of that, but restrictive in other ways. He could still fight in it. That was what mattered.
The noose... Mac adjusted the tie so it rested snugly against his collar. He could see why Commander had called it that.
The feeling didn't bother him though. He didn't need to breathe as much as humans did.
All right then. Time to start his new training.
