Kentas saw his breath puff in front of him before the wind took it as he and M-21 bounced from rooftop to rooftop, snow crunching underfoot. Snow fell in clumps, and getting thicker by the second.
Kentas loved it, a grin wide across his face.
He turned when he heard M-21's footsteps fall behind by almost half a rooftop, and that wasn't like him - they were normally side by side, only a step between them.
M-21 was scowling at the snow, his shoulders stiff and arms held close to him, while his hands were in his pockets.
"You okay?"
M-21 glanced at him, frowning. "Yeah? Why."
Huh. It didn't seem like a lie. Then...M-21 didn't realise how he was holding himself? "You seem cold."
"I'm not," M-21 said, pulling his hands out of his pockets. A second later, he shoved them back in, hissing. "Okay, I'm not; I'm fucking freezing."
Chuckling softly, Kentas removed his jacket and draped it over M-21's shoulders.
M-21 exhaled when he did that, his eyes closing briefly.
"...Oi." M-21 frowned at Kentas' jacket, but didn't try to remove it. Maybe he was too cold to.
"Yeah?" Kentas stretched, snow settling against his neck, now that he wasn't wearing the jacket.
"Take it back," M-21 said, trying to take off Kentas' jacket with stiff fingers. "We're close to home anyway. I don't want you getting cold because of me."
"I won't."
M-21 snorted. "Wear it anyway," he said, holding out Kentas' jacket.
Kentas took one look at M-21's face and huffed, taking his jacket back, slipping it on. He wouldn't be able to change M-21's mind and the longer he tried, the longer they would be out in the snow.
"Okay," M-21 said, shoving his hands back in his pockets as soon as he could. "Home."
"Yeah." The sooner they made it back, the better.

It took a while for M-21 to warm up, but Kentas could feel it happen bit by bit as M-21 relaxed against him as they sat on the living room sofa.
"Things are so different now," M-21 muttered with a sigh.
"Yeah, the storm came through pretty quick." Kentas had felt the chill in the air, but he hadn't expected the snowstorm to be that heavy. It was still going on, clumps of white drifting past the window.
"No, not that." M-21 shifted slightly, before settling again. "I hate the snow." He paused. "Or used to. Now...it's just cold."
"Why would you hate snow?" It was slippery when it turned to ice underfoot, but that was just something else to learn how to move over.
"Because it fucking sucked for missions," M-21 grumbled. "Couldn't see as far as I liked and if our target got away, it just made everything more difficult. It made us wet and cold, and we didn't have shelter. Good shelter anyway," he added. He sighed, curling up on himself further as he leaned against Kentas. "M-24 would give me his coat when he saw me shivering," he said, "even when he felt the cold more than me."
Was that why M-21 had refused his jacket...? Kentas rumbled, pulling M-21 as close to him as he could.
"Yeah," M-21 said, relaxing even more, "it's really different now."

The next day, it was still snowing as Kentas and M-21 patrolled the city. Kentas kept a closer eye on M-21 and when M-21 started flagging, he slowed to match.
M-21 rolled his eyes when they paused at a rooftop, even though his hands were in his pockets again. "I'm fine."
"But you could be warmer," Kentas said.
M-21 shrugged. "You're not giving me your jacket."
Hng... What could he do if... That could work. "I won't," Kentas said, walking towards him.
M-21 watched Kentas' hands with narrow-eyed suspicion but didn't say anything else.
Kentas enveloped M-21 in a hug, wrapping his jacket around him as well.
M-21 laughed at that, sliding his arms around Kentas' waist. "Fine," he said, muffled against Kentas' shoulder, "this works."
Kentas smiled, holding him tight. "Good."
