Kentas was toeing out of his boots when Tao poked his head into the entrance.

Tao beamed at the sight of him. "Heeey, just the werewolf I wanna see. Ya busy?"

"No." He'd finished his run around the city so until dinner or training with M-21, he had free time.

"Something fun," Tao said, rocking back and forth on his feet as he waited for Kentas to put on the slippers.

"Isn't it always fun?" Kentas said, smiling.

Tao slapped him on the back, laughing. "You get it!"

* * *

M-21 glanced at Kentas as they made their way to their sparring area. "What is it?" Kentas smiling to himself wasn't that weird - he did that when he was excited about something, which wasn't that surprising. It wasn't that unusual for Kentas to be smiling in anticipation before a spar either but...this smile was different, and M-21 couldn't place how. They hadn't been shittalking each other before deciding to spar, so it couldn't be that.

"I'm testing something Tao and I made," Kentas said, his smile widening.

Ah, fuck. "What did you do?" What had Tao dragged him into this time?

Kentas shook his head. "He said it was a better surprise if I didn't say what it was before a spar."

That could mean anything. M-21 eyed him, but Kentas didn't seem to be carrying anything new. He had the cloak he preferred over a jacket, and he was wearing a shirt under it. Kentas still had pockets though, and Tao could make things microscopic when he wanted to.

It shouldn't be too bad, right? But if Tao wanted to make sure they were alone rather than in public...

That still meant it could be anything.

"All right." M-21 knew there was no point trying to figure it out - Tao's mind made leaps far bigger than his own that he couldn't predict what Tao would decide next, but M-21's brain kept trying to worry at it.

It didn't take long for them to reach their sparring area. As M-21 grabbed his top, Kentas held up his hands.

"Wait a minute."

M-21 narrowed his eyes, but dropped his hands.

Kentas flung off his cloak with the usual well-practiced ease.

M-21 frowned at Kentas' shirt. A button-up shirt. Now that they were here, he knew he should have realised that was off - Kentas could sometimes be convinced to wear a button up shirt, but he preferred something he could pull over his head. He would never wear one for a spar.

And while all the buttons were done up, it hung loosely. Like... Like what?

Grinning at him, Kentas grabbed at the collar of his shirt and tugged.

The shirt came off as if it had already been ripped (and seeing it, M-21 was right - the back hadn't been connected) the sound of velcro loud in the air, and Kentas pulled his sleeves off, tossing the shirt to the side. "What did you think?"

M-21 closed his eyes and sighed. "I can see why Tao said to do it here." It was the best way to not get in trouble stripping down in public, and of course Kentas would agree to do it before a spar. "I won't be wearing it at the school though," M-21 said as he pulled his top over his head.

"Huh, why not?"

"Because I do sometimes take my jacket off," M-21 said, throwing his top to the side, "and I'd rather not have to explain to others why they can see my back." He didn't want to imagine the flurry of gossip that would follow him if he did that.

"Then tell them it's for fights."

M-21 huffed, shaking his head. "I'm supposed to be stopping them, not starting them." It didn't always work out, but at least at the school he was mostly successful.

"Hnnng." Kentas was quiet for a few seconds, and then nodded. "We'll think of something else then."

"I'm sure you will," M-21 said, flexing his hands, getting ready. With Tao, there was always another idea he could try out.
