Frankenstein was cold. He wasn't cold enough to shiver but Muzaka knew him enough to see his movements were stiffer than usual, goosebumps raised over his skin.
Hm.
As Muzaka walked over to him, Frankenstein glanced at him, eyebrow raised.
Muzaka didn't say anything, just wrapping his arms around Frankenstein's waist as he pressed his lips to the crook of Frankenstein's neck. Yep, definitely cold.
Frankenstein sighed softly, melting into him. "I should find out why werewolves' cores are warmer than humans'," he murmured.
Muzaka chuckled, stroking his back. "Of course you'd turn it into somethin' to study." Every new thing Frankenstein found, he wanted to find out more, to see if he could replicate it.
"Hmph."
The fact Frankenstein didn't have a bigger retort meant he was even colder than Muzaka thought. "We could stop here."
"Or we could run instead," Frankenstein said, still not moving away. "That will warm me up."
Muzaka hummed, glancing at the sky. "The sun's setting soon anyway, so we wouldn't get that much further if we did."
Frankenstein didn't say anything for a few seconds, one hand playing with Muzaka's hair. "We'll need to collect firewood then."
"In a bit," Muzaka said, taking a step back. He grinned at Frankenstein's puzzled expression. "You need to get warmed up first."
"Oh?"
Muzaka stretched, transforming. He saw Frankenstein's eyebrows arch as he grew, his bones lengthening and shifting. His skin itched as fur sprouted from them and he hunched over as his hips changed position.
He shook himself once he was done, getting used to where everything was again.
"Huh," Frankenstein said, tilting his head up at him. "This is the final stage of the transformation?"
Muzaka grinned, wagging his tail. "Yep." He circled Frankenstein and lay down, so that Frankenstein was in the centre.
Frankenstein put a hand on Muzaka's fur, and when he pushed, he almost lost his entire arm before he touched Muzaka's skin. "Well, I'll definitely be warmed if I stay here."
Muzaka chuckled, nuzzling Frankenstein'c cheek. "That's the point. So sit."
"All right," Frankenstein said, settling against Muzaka's fur.
Muzaka lay his head down, completing the circle, and he rumbled when he felt Frankenstein's fingers scratch the back of his ears.
It wouldn't take too long to warm him up, and after that they could start setting up camp.
