Min-gyu sighed, double-checking his bag for what seemed the fifth time in as many minutes. It didn't matter, really. He or Takeo could pop out to grab anything they'd forgotten, but sometimes it was better if Tao had everything he needed at once, in case he got distracted with another assignment before he finished them.

The apartment was quiet when they entered, which wasn't unusual - Tao didn't have much running in the background once he started concentrating on assignments.

Min-gyu could hear the furious clack of keys though after he shut the door. It meant Tao was alive and awake at least, but when was the last time he'd slept... He'd heard Tao on his laptop when he'd left in the morning to go to class, but that could have either been Tao waking up and instantly working, or he hadn't slept the entire night.

"Oi, Tao," Min-gyu said, knocking on Tao's door as Takeo moved through to put away the rest of the shopping. Tao didn't answer, which wasn't anything new.

He opened the door and froze, gripping the door handle. "The fuck?"

"Hhn?" Tao blearily looked up from his laptop at him. "S'up?"

"The fuck are they?" There were two men in Tao's room: a man with shoulder length blond hair, and the other with silver hair so long he could sit on it and a scar that jutted up from his jaw that almost crossed his left eye. They were both on chairs that Min-gyu was sure Tao used to store his books when he wasn't reading them.

Min-gyu knew Tao was far more social than he or Takeo were put together, but as soon as deadlines and exams came up, Tao locked himself in his room to get them done. He wouldn't have brought anyone over, and they weren't anyone Min-gyu recognised either.

Tao blinked at him as Takeo came to Min-gyu's back. He looked back at the pair, and then back at Min-gyu and Takeo, his eyes wide. "Wait, you can see 'em? I thought I was just hallucinatin'!"

"We tried to tell him we were here," the blond man said with a sigh, "but he didn't believe us."

Min-gyu scowled at the pair. "And you just didn't leave." Shit, had they picked up Tao's keys, or anything important in the apartment? The pair didn't look like they had filled bags with them.

"Hey, hey," Tao said, waving his arms in front of the pair in a half-hearted attempt to protect them. "They helped! Frankie knows everything an' knows how ta fix all the issues I'd been having - if he'd actually tell me straight up rather than leadin' me ta the answer, urgh." Tao rolled his eyes. "An' Muzaka makes the best food."

Min-gyu stared at Tao. "And you thought they were hallucinations?"

"Weeell?" Tao shrugged, yawning. "Kinda figured Frankie was just my uuuuh, subconsciousness knowin' all the answers already but I couldn't reach it, and I dunno. Muzaka was from me blacking out for a second after makin' some food and forgetting I'd done it?" Tao yawned again, his eyes drooping. "An' they're nice and..."

Min-gyu rushed in, catching Tao as he passed out, Takeo pulling his laptop out of the way.

"Finally," someone muttered and Min-gyu snapped his head up to glare at them as he moved Tao to a more comfortable position on his bed.

"Hey, ease up, kid," the silver-haired man said, holding his hands up. "Tao hasn't slept fer over a day so we were worried when he was gonna finally go."

"I take it you two are the reason why he hasn't died of malnutrition already?" the blond man said wryly, taking his glasses off with a sigh.

"How did you get in?" Min-gyu demanded instead.

The blond man gestured to the floor in front of them: Tao had drawn an intricate circle there in sharpie. "He summoned us."

"I don't fucking believe you," Min-gyu snapped. "Tak-"

Min-gyu sucked in a breath, his eyesight wavering. "What-?"

"You aren't gonna believe us otherwise," the silver wolf said. It had the same scar on the side of its face, the same wild eyebrows.

"And we won't be able to leave Tao's side for long," the dark purple shadow said, his voice echoing like a thousand people were speaking at the same time. Eyes. So many eyes. "So we would appreciate it if you didn't call any authorities on us."

A wolf and a shadow. Except they weren't. Their forms kept moving, like they weren't actually there, Min-gyu only seeing them through water.

"If...Tao summoned you," Takeo said, as Min-gyu sat down next to Tao on his bed, his legs refusing to hold him, "then he must have paid some sort of price?"

At that, the wolf tipped his head back and laughed, revealing a rippling set of fangs that seemed to go on forever like a shark's mouth, growing bigger and bigger with every passing second. Min-gyu shook his head, his eyes watering.

When he looked up again, the pair appeared human. Solid.

"That's why we're trapped here," the blond man said, wryly. "We're not exactly sure what adjustments Tao made to the summoning circle, but no contract was officially made."

"But we're still here because he managed to summon us through him sacrificing up the most important things to him," the silver man said, grinning wildly again, as Min-gyu's stomach sank.

"And that would be...?" Takeo asked softly.

The silver-haired guy started snickering again while the blond grimaced. "This is the first time we've been summoned through sacrificing cup ramen and batteries."

Min-gyu stared at them and then groaned, putting his head in his hands. To a sleep deprived Tao, those were the most important things in his life.
