The Lord raised his eyebrows at the racket outside his window. He rose from his throne and went to the window.
Outside, there was a large white bird, pacing up and down the grounds. It had a long neck and arched up, it would have gone past the Lord's knee.
"Honk honk!" the bird cried out, flapping its wings.
Interesting. The Lord had never seen one like that, but his attention was drawn away by his door opening.
It would leave soon, but he might be able to see it again after the meeting.

Gejutel jerked his head towards a crash from deeper within his mansion. There was only the one, but he hurried in the direction - if it was an intruder trying to hide their presence, they weren't doing a good job.
He found a cluster of servants gathered around the dining room, murmuring amongst themselves.
"Ah, Landegre-nim!" one of them said, the others turning towards him and bowing.
"What happened?" he asked, relaxing. If it had been an attack, they would have come to get him.
"We're not sure..." the one who originally spoke answered. "We heard the noise, but no-one has admitted to doing it."
'It'? Gejutel peered into the room.
Inside the dining room, one of the tables was overturned, cutlery spilled onto the floor, the vase in a similar position, but still whole.
The tablecloth was gone.
The curtains fluttered from the wind coming in through the open window, a white feather still waiting to settle in the aftermath.
"Only the tablecloth?" Gejutel asked, mystified. Why would someone steal only that? Or did they run because they'd drawn attention to themselves?
"As far as we can tell, Landegre-nim," the servant murmured. "Everything else is accounted for."
"Replace the cloth," Gejutel said, heading for the front door. "I'll check to see if I can find the thief."
"Yes, Landegre-nim."
* * *
Gejutel couldn't sense any auras outside and while he could hear the rustle from the forest nearby, they were the usual sounds from the undergrowth.
How could something elude his senses so easily...? Was this a new enemy, showing off their power? But stealing only a tablecloth...
Gejutel turned and rushed towards his mansion again. Maybe it had been a ruse, drawing him away!

Roctis paused, looking around his library. A few of his books had fallen from their shelves, their pages fluttering in the wind. Had he not placed them back properly?
Or had Ignes been reading through his books again?
Hm, he would have to remind her to put them back where she found them.
Roctis started tidying his library, setting aside the book he'd been intending to read.
* * *
There was a stranger in Ragar's mansion. It wasn't someone trying to hide their presence, and only one person, but nevertheless, he kept his mind primed to summon Kartas should he need it.
The intruder was in his room and Ragar peered through the crack in his door. It was...a large bird? He'd seen a few of the white birds as he travelled around the human world. A goose, he think they called it?
It was rummaging through one of his drawers, dumping everything it found. It paused, giving a short honk of triumph before it pulled out one of Ragar's face masks.
Carrying that, it waddled over to the open window, hopping onto the windowsill, and then flew off.
Ragar blinked, waiting to see if anything else would happen, but nothing did.
A bird had wanted his face mask? There was nothing special about them, and if it didn't return, then there was no reason for him to pursue it.
He had more.
* * *
Urokai crashed through the forest, trying to find that flash of white he'd seen leaving his mansion. That - that bird had stolen his teapot! He'd just taken it out when the bird had crashed in though his window, shedding its dirty feathers everywhere and stolen his teapot from right under his nose!
It must have been attracted to its shininess, but that teapot was for Raizel-nim, not some wild beast.
He should have caught up to it already, but he still hadn't found it yet. But he would! He wasn't going to stop until he'd caught the thief!
* * *
There was a something happening in Lukedonia, an uneasiness in the air, but not something that needed Raizel to take action. Though Urokai was flustered, racing from one side of the forest to another.
Hm...
"Hey!"
Raizel blinked, looking down. There was a large white bird in the flat area before the forest. Next to it was a square...table cloth, it looked like, and on top of it was an assortment of items. A book, teapot, a bunch of roses, and what looked like the Kertia's face mask?
"Heeey!" the bird yelled again, flapping his wings. "I know you can hear me!"
Raizel could hear and understand a lot of animals, and they were usually talking amongst themselves, so he focused again on what was happening in Lukedonia.
* * *
The bird was in Raizel's mansion. It was focused on finding something and Raizel followed him, curious as to what he was looking for.
When Raizel reached him, it was just in time to see the bird had just pull off one of his shirts off the mannequin.
He watched as the bird looked at him, and the picked up the shirt, still looking at him.
"That is my shirt," Raizel said, unsure what the bird was doing.
"Then take it back," the bird said, flying out the window.
Raizel's own wings flapped in sympathy in his mind, wanting to stretch and fly.
The bird landed close to where he had been before, depositing Raizel's shirt on top of the tablecloth. The bird settled down next to the shirt, looking up at him.
Raizel could go out the window and fly over. His wings rustled, on the edge of solidifying but he stepped back, turning towards the door.
He would take the stairs.
* * *
The bird was still there when Raizel emerged from his mansion, watching him.
"That is my shirt," Raizel repeated, unsure again when the bird held his gaze. The only other being who did that was the Lord. "Why did you take it?" Birds did not need clothes. He had never seen one wear clothes, and his shirt would not fit the bird.
The bird continued staring at him before saying, "You didn't come out when I called; I needed something that would bring you here."
'Here' with all the items. Raizel looked at them again. ...Hm. Aside from the Kertia face mask, he could recognise the Blerster roses and...Urokai's teapot? That would explain why the Clan Leader was so flustered earlier on.
"Those items are not yours either."
The bird ruffled his feathers. "They weren't using them. Here, they will be."
Raizel stared at the bird. "That was why you wanted me outside?"
The bird nodded. "You were trapped inside. You should be outside."
Raizel's wings fluttered again and he sighed, slowly sitting down next to the bird. "I was not trapped." Walls would not be able to hold him inside.
"Honk. Which was why you stared out for so long, but didn't move?"
How long had the bird been watching him? "That is enough."
"Hah! If it was, you wouldn't need to stare. Your wings want to be free."
Raizel stared at the bird. He could see his wings? Not even the Lord could do that unless Rai called his wings out first.
Now that Raizel was focusing, he could feel something else skirting his senses, an amalgamation of souls emanating from the bird.
"What...are you?" The bird was not like one he'd seen before.
"A goose," the bird said. "The humans in white called me an 'experiment', before trying to feed me to the angry purple thing."
"It did not eat you," Raizel noted. Or else the goose would not be here.
"I am a goose," the goose said, affronted. "We don't get eaten so easily."
"Clearly," Raizel said, a hint of a smile forming.
It was...nice, seeing the forest close up rather than from afar.
Raizel would not mind doing this more often with the goose.
I was kind of wanting to end this fic with Frankenstein 'stealing'/encouraging Rai to leave Lukedonia, but maybe a later part if I ever get to it.
These kind of images of picnics wouldn't have existed then, but neither should have Frankenstein's suit or Rai's shirts, so we'll keep with the anachronisms.
